Salary certificates in the UAE, explained

What does a UAE salary certificate usually contain?

The employee's name and job title, the date they joined, the monthly salary in dirhams broken down into basic wage and allowances, the purpose the letter is for, and a signature and stamp from the employer. This generator also writes the monthly total in words, and prints only what you enter.

Is there a legal salary certificate format?

No. The UAE Labour Law does not set a format for a salary certificate. The salary certificate format this tool uses is a common one, not a legal form. A bank or embassy may ask for its own wording or its own template, so check what the person asking wants before you issue it.

Who asks for a salary certificate?

Banks and embassies commonly ask for one. The purpose is a field on the form (account opening, a loan, a visa or something else), and so is the addressee, where you can write "To whom it may concern" if the letter is not for a named recipient.

What is the difference between basic wage and total salary?

Under Article 1 of the Decree-Law, the basic wage is the wage in the employment contract without allowances or benefits in kind, and the wage is the basic wage plus the cash allowances and benefits in kind given under the contract. The certificate lists basic, housing, transport and other allowances separately and adds them into a monthly total.
