UAE gratuity calculator
This gratuity calculator works out your end of service benefits under Federal Decree-Law 33 of 2021. The law is federal, so the same rule applies to gratuity in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and every other emirate. Worked out in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
Enter your dates and basic salary to see your gratuity.
How the gratuity calculator works
How is gratuity calculated in the UAE?
On your last basic salary: 21 days of basic pay for each of the first five years of service and 30 days for each year after that. Part years count in proportion once you have completed one full year. The total cannot exceed two years of wage.
Do I get gratuity if I resign?
Usually, yes. Under the 2021 labour law a full-time foreign employee with at least one year of continuous service receives the same end of service benefit whether they resign or the employer ends the contract. Two exceptions: if your contract began as an open-ended contract under the old 1980 law, your employer may calculate it under that law, which reduced gratuity on resignation; and your employer may deduct amounts you owe under the law, such as pay for notice you did not work.
Do allowances count towards gratuity?
No. Gratuity is worked out on the basic salary only. Housing, transport and other allowances are left out.
Does unpaid leave reduce my gratuity?
Yes. Days of unpaid absence are not counted in your service period.
Is there a limit on gratuity?
Yes. The total cannot exceed two years of wage. The law defines wage as basic salary plus allowances and benefits in kind, so the calculator applies the cap on your total salary when you give it, and on your basic salary otherwise.
Does the gratuity calculator work for Dubai and Abu Dhabi?
Yes. Gratuity in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and every other emirate follows the same federal labour law, so one gratuity calculator covers the whole UAE. The exceptions are DIFC and ADGM, which have their own employment laws.
How is the daily wage worked out?
The labour law counts a month as 30 days, so the daily basic wage is your monthly basic salary divided by 30.
