Annual leave and leave salary calculation, explained
How much annual leave do I get in the UAE?
Under the UAE labour law, annual leave is at least 30 days for each full year of service. Between six months and a year, you earn 2 days for each month. When you leave, you are paid for leave you earned and did not take.
How is leave salary calculated?
Leave you take is paid on your full wage, including allowances. Unused leave paid out when you leave is worked out on your basic salary: the days multiplied by your monthly basic divided by 30.
Is sick leave paid in the UAE?
After probation, yes: up to 90 days a year, the first 15 on your full wage, the next 30 on half your wage and the rest unpaid. There is no paid sick leave during probation. It is unpaid if the illness results from the employee's own misconduct.
How long is maternity leave in the UAE?
Sixty days: 45 on your full wage and 15 on half your wage. If the baby needs a constant companion, a further 30 days on full pay, on a medical report, and a further 30 days may be taken unpaid.
What other leave do UAE employees get?
Five working days of paid parental leave, for either parent, within six months of a birth. Paid bereavement leave of five days for a spouse and three days for a parent, child, sibling, grandchild or grandparent. Ten paid working days a year of study leave to sit exams at an accredited UAE institution, after two years with the employer, and up to 30 days of unpaid Hajj leave once with the same employer, both as set out in the government guide.
