Notice

This letter gives notice. Dismissal without notice is not covered: Article 44 requires a written investigation with the worker, a written and justified decision, and one of the causes it lists.

Termination letters, explained

How much notice must an employer give in the UAE?

Article 43(1) of Federal Decree-Law 33 of 2021 says either party may end the contract for a legitimate reason by written notice. The notice period is the one agreed in the contract, and it cannot be less than 30 days or more than 90 days. This form refuses a notice period outside that range.

Can the employee take time off to look for a new job?

Yes. If the employer ends the contract, the worker may be absent for one working day without pay each week of the notice period to search for another job. The worker chooses the day and tells the employer at least 3 days before it (Art. 43(5)). The letter says so.

What does the final settlement include?

The letter of termination lists four things and states no amounts: wages up to the last working day, a notice period allowance if the notice period is not worked, pay for unused annual leave, and end of service gratuity. Articles 43(3), 29(9) and 51 set those rules, and the gratuity, leave and notice period calculators work out the amounts.

Does this letter cover dismissal without notice?

No. Article 44 lets an employer dismiss a worker without notice only after a written investigation with the worker, and only by a written and justified decision handed to the worker, in one of the cases the article lists. A letter of notice does not do that, so this tool does not draft it.

What if the employee is still on probation?

Article 9(1) lets the employer end the service of a worker during probation after notifying the worker in writing at least 14 days before the date set for the end of service. Tick the probation box and the form accepts 14 days or more, the letter cites Article 9(1), and the job-search day sentence is left out, because Article 43(5) is about termination under Article 43.

What if the employee is on leave when notice is given?

Article 35 says that if a party terminates the contract while the worker is on leave, the notice period does not begin until the day after the day scheduled for the worker's return from leave, unless both parties agree otherwise. Enter the day the employee is due back and the form counts from the day after.

Does the employee still get paid during notice?

Yes. The contract stays valid throughout the notice period and the worker is entitled to the full wage for it, at the last wage obtained (Art. 43(2)).

The law behind these figures

Every figure on this page comes from the rules below, checked 17 October 2026.

Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021

  • Art. 43(1)-(2)Either party may terminate for a legitimate reason by written notice, with a notice period agreed in the contract of not less than 30 and not more than 90 days. The contract stays valid through the notice period and the worker is entitled to full wage for it, at the last wage obtained.
  • Art. 43(3)-(4)The party who does not abide by the notice period pays the other a notice period allowance equal to the worker's wage for the full notice period or the remaining part of it. It is calculated on the last wage received for monthly, weekly, daily or hourly pay.
  • Art. 9(1), (3), (4)During probation the employer may end the service after at least 14 days' written notice (Art. 9(1)). A worker who wants to move to another employer in the UAE notifies the original employer in writing not less than one month ahead, and the new employer compensates the original employer for recruitment or contracting costs unless otherwise agreed (Art. 9(3)). A foreign worker who wants to end the contract to leave the UAE gives at least 14 days' written notice; if the worker returns on a new work permit within three months of leaving, the new employer pays that compensation unless the worker and the original employer agree otherwise (Art. 9(4)).
  • Art. 35If a party terminates the contract while the worker is on leave, the notice period does not begin until the day after the day scheduled for the worker's return from leave, unless both parties agree otherwise.
