Quotation format and VAT, explained

What should a quotation format include?

Your company details, the line items with VAT in dirhams, and a date the price is valid until. This quotation template has a place for each, and the totals are worked out for you.

What is the difference between a quotation, a proforma invoice and a tax invoice?

A quotation offers a price and says how long it holds. A proforma invoice tells the customer what they will be charged before the supply happens. Neither is a tax invoice. A tax invoice is the document that carries the Article 59(1) particulars and the VAT charged.

How do I invoice in a foreign currency?

Article 69 of the VAT law converts an invoice in another currency into dirhams at the exchange rate approved by the Central Bank on the date of supply. Article 59(1)(k) of the Executive Regulation adds that a tax invoice shows the VAT payable in dirhams with the exchange rate applied. For the date you choose, this generator uses the Central Bank table for that day. If there is no table for that day, it uses the latest earlier table it holds and says so on the document. Before or after the dates it holds, it asks you to type the Central Bank rate and the date of its table, and prints what you typed.

How is VAT rounded on the invoice?

Article 61 of the Executive Regulation allows VAT worked out to a fraction of a fils to be rounded to the nearest fils. The generator works out VAT on each line and rounds it to the nearest fils, with half a fils rounding up. The totals are the sums of the printed lines, so every figure on the document adds up.

The law behind these figures

Every figure on this page comes from the rules below, checked 17 October 2026.

Federal Decree-Law No. 8 of 2017 on Value Added Tax

  • Art. 3A standard rate of 5% VAT applies to taxable supplies and imports, unless the law zero-rates or exempts them.
  • Art. 69An invoice in another currency is converted into dirhams at the exchange rate approved by the Central Bank on the date of supply.

Cabinet Decision No. 52 of 2017 (VAT Executive Regulation)

  • Art. 61VAT worked out to a fraction of a fils may be rounded to the nearest fils.
