UAE VAT, explained

What is the VAT rate in the UAE?

5% on most goods and services. Some supplies are zero-rated or exempt, so check how your supply is treated before charging it.

How do I add VAT to a price?

Multiply the price before VAT by 0.05 to get the VAT, then add it. AED 1,000 before VAT is AED 50 VAT and AED 1,050 in total. The VAT calculator above does both steps for you.

How do I take VAT out of a total?

Divide the total by 1.05 to get the amount before VAT; the difference is the VAT. AED 1,050 including VAT is AED 1,000 before VAT and AED 50 VAT.

How is VAT rounded?

The VAT Executive Regulation allows VAT worked out to a fraction of a fils to be rounded to the nearest fils, and this calculator does so, with half a fils rounding up.
