IBAN checker
Use this IBAN checker to confirm an IBAN has the right length for its country and valid check digits before you pay it. As a UAE IBAN checker it also splits out the bank code and account number. Checked in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

IBAN numbers, explained
What is an IBAN?
An IBAN is the International Bank Account Number, a standard way of writing a bank account so that a payment can cross borders. It starts with a two-letter country code and two check digits, followed by the national account details, and its length is fixed for each country.
What does a UAE IBAN look like?
A UAE IBAN has 23 characters: AE, two check digits, a 3-digit bank code, then the account number field. For example, AE07 0331 2345 6789 0123 456 has bank code 033. Standard Chartered UAE describes the format this way in its IBAN FAQ; the Central Bank of the UAE publishes the official format.
What do the check digits catch?
The two check digits are worked out from every other character by a standard calculation, so a single wrong character or two swapped neighbours almost always make the check fail. The IBAN checker tests the length for the country and then those digits.
What do the check digits not catch?
They cannot tell you that the account exists, is open, or belongs to the person you mean. A valid IBAN can still be the wrong account, so confirm the account name with the recipient before sending a large or first payment.
Why does the tool not show the bank name?
Bank names come from a separate directory that changes, and a stale or guessed name could make a wrong IBAN look right. The tool shows only what the IBAN itself proves: its country, length, check digits and, for the UAE, the bank identifier and account number.
The law behind these figures
Every figure on this page comes from the rules below, checked 17 October 2026.
SWIFT IBAN Registry
- Guide: IBAN country lengths and structureThe registry fixes the exact IBAN length for each member country. SWIFT blocked automated downloads on the check date, so the lengths in this tool are those of Release 99 (December 2024) as reproduced by Wikipedia and cross-checked against iban.com; they were not read from the SWIFT file itself. A newer release may add a country.
Central Bank of the UAE
- Guide: UAE IBAN formatThe Central Bank of the UAE publishes the IBAN format on this page. It could not be read automatically on the check date, so the 23-character format with a 3-digit bank code is as Standard Chartered UAE's IBAN FAQ describes it.
Standard Chartered UAE
- Guide: IBAN frequently asked questionsA UAE IBAN is 23 characters: AE, two check digits, a 3-character bank code (Standard Chartered's is 044) and the account number field. The bank states that its own account numbers are 11 digits.
