Is the end date included in the count?
By default it is not: from 1 January to 2 January is 1 day. Tick "Count the end date too" when both the first and last day count, such as days of leave or days on a contract, and the same dates give 2 days.
How are month ends handled?
When you add months or years and the target month is shorter, the date moves back to its last day. 31 January plus 1 month is 28 February (29 in a leap year), and 29 February 2024 plus 1 year is 28 February 2025.
How is an exact age worked out?
Count the whole years from the birth date, then the whole months after that, then the days that are left. The age on a date counts only days already lived, so a person born on 4 May 1990 is 36 years, 5 months and 14 days old on 18 October 2026.
Do time zones change the answer?
No. Dates are read as calendar days with no time of day, so the result is the same wherever you are.
