Three volumes per room

Every conversation has its own setting, yours alone:

All. Every message notifies. Right for a small room you are actively working in.

Mentions. Only when somebody names you. This is the right default for most channels, and the setting that makes a large workspace survivable.

Muted. Nothing notifies. The room still shows unread, so you can read it when you choose.

Mute rather than leave

Leaving a channel loses you the ability to search it and means somebody has to re-add you.

Muting keeps you a member and stops the interruption. For any channel you want to be able to look at but not hear from, mute is the correct answer and leaving is not.

Scheduling a message

Write now, send later. Pending messages sit in a strip above the composer, and you can cancel any of them before they go.

The obvious use is hours. Writing at eleven at night is your business; putting a notification on somebody else's evening is theirs. Scheduling it for the morning costs you nothing.

It also removes the argument for messaging on annual leave. Write it, schedule it for their return, forget it.

Forwarding

A message can be forwarded to another conversation with its attachments intact.

Better than describing something second-hand or screenshotting it, both of which lose the context and the ability to search for it later.
