Two light surfaces for the stage before work is committed.
Notes
A note has a title, content, a colour, a pinned flag, and an optional campaign.
Notes attached to a campaign are the working thinking around it - a call with an agency, a decision and why, a list of things to check before launch. Attaching them means they are found by the next person who opens that campaign rather than living in whoever wrote them.
Pin the few that matter. A pinned note is what you want read before someone touches the campaign; an unpinned one is reference.
Colour is for the eye, not the system. Agree what your colours mean or do not use them.
Ideas
An idea board: title, body, colour, tags, upvotes, and a position on the board.
The position is free - ideas can be arranged spatially, clustered by theme rather than forced into a list. That suits the stage where you do not yet know the categories.
Upvotes are how a team surfaces what it collectively rates without a meeting. Useful, with one caveat worth naming: voting rewards the familiar. The idea everyone understands immediately wins over the one that needs explaining, and the second is sometimes the better idea. Use votes to find the shortlist, not to decide.
When An Idea Becomes Work
There is no automatic promotion, and that is a feature. An idea becoming a campaign should be a decision someone makes, not a threshold that trips.
When it happens: create the campaign, write the blueprint, and leave the idea on the board with its history. See Blueprints and Creative.
Keeping Them Useful
Both surfaces degrade the same way - they fill up and stop being read.
- Archive ideas that were considered and rejected, rather than deleting them. The same idea returns, and knowing it was rejected before, with the reasoning, is worth having.
- Delete notes that were about a moment. A note about last quarter's launch checklist is noise now.
- Review the board quarterly. Anything that has sat unvoted for a year is not going to happen.
Common Questions
Can a note be private? Ideas carry a visibility setting. Notes attach to a campaign and follow its access.
Do ideas notify anyone? No. They are a passive surface, which is why they need a review rhythm.
Should a brief start as an idea? It can. The idea captures the thought; the blueprint commits to it. Different jobs.
Can I attach files? Assets are the library for files. Link from the note rather than duplicating.
