Holidays and the Working Week How the working week and public holidays are set per hub, and everything downstream that reads them.

What counts as a working day is a property of the hub, not of the organisation. That is the whole design, and it is what lets a Gulf entity on Sunday to Thursday and a UK entity on Monday to Friday coexist without either being wrong.

The Working Week

Each hub carries its own working days and its business hours - a start time and an end time. Set them in Settings, Hubs, Operating. See Hubs in the Settings section.

Three things read them directly:

  • Attendance decides lateness against the hub's start time
  • Booking availability offers slots inside the hub's hours
  • The calendar highlights the working week

Caution

This is the single highest-leverage setting in the module. A hub with the wrong working days produces wrong attendance for everyone in it, every day, and it is usually noticed as "the whole team is showing late" rather than as a configuration error.

Public Holidays

Holidays are per hub, each with a name, a date, a year and a country. A hub in the UAE gets UAE holidays; a hub in India gets Indian ones. There is no shared national calendar, because there is no shared nation.

Add them a year at a time. Several jurisdictions announce dates that move - the Gulf's lunar calendar holidays are confirmed close to the date - so the list needs a refresh each year rather than being set once.

Why Both Matter Together

The working week decides which days are workable. The holiday list removes specific dates from those days. Together they decide what a day off actually costs and what a leave request actually consumes.

A leave request spanning a week means something different in a hub with a four-day week and two public holidays in it than in one without. Getting these right is what makes the numbers downstream believable.

Setting Up A Hub's Calendar

  1. Set the working days for the hub.
  2. Set business hours - the shift window.
  3. Add this year's public holidays, with the correct country.
  4. Check attendance the following morning. If a normal day is flagging people late, the hours are wrong.
  5. Put a reminder in for next year's holiday list.

Common Questions

Our whole team is showing as late. The hub's start time is wrong, or the wrong timezone is set on the hub. Fix it in Hubs; it is not an attendance problem.

We have two offices in one country with different hours. Two hubs. A hub is a legal entity, but it also carries the schedule, so genuinely different working weeks need separate hubs.

Do holidays deduct from leave? The day count on a leave request comes from the dates chosen. What makes a day workable is the hub's week and its holiday list.

Who can edit this? Hub configuration needs admin access. It is deliberately not something each department changes for itself.
